Duncan Terrace, Islington: Cornice and Ceiling Rose Restoration

Duncan Terrace in Islington dates from circa 1775. On 3 November 2017, we carried out restoration work on the decorative plaster mouldings in the hallway, including the cornice and the ceiling rose in the domed ceiling.

The work involved carefully removing the detailed mouldings so that the built-up paint could be taken off in our workshop. Working on the pieces away from the property gave us access to their decorative detail throughout the cleaning process.

Once the paint had been removed, we returned the cleaned mouldings to Duncan Terrace and fitted them back into place. The photographs below show the plasterwork involved and the stages of this restoration project.

If you have a period cornice or ceiling rose that needs attention, see our cornice restoration and repair and ceiling rose services, or contact us with photographs of the plasterwork.
